Meet Kennedi Tillman, Founder and CEO

Kennedi Tillman is the visionary behind Blissful Movement Dance Company, a thriving business she started in 2022 to bring the joy of dance to kids in schools across Houston.

Q: Who are you, and what business did you start?

I’m the CEO of Blissful Movement Dance Company. We bring after-school dance programs to children in Houston, spreading joy and creativity through movement.

Q: What's your backstory, and how did you come up with the idea?

I started out teaching kindergarten and ran dance classes after school as a hobby. The kids absolutely loved it, and I found so much joy in it, too. Over time, I realized this wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was my calling. I decided to turn my passion into a career.

Q: Take us through the process of how you started your business.

I began brainstorming and planning, and I created a strategy to partner with schools. Leaving the classroom was a leap of faith, but I knew teaching dance at multiple schools was my path forward. I pitched my program to many schools and faced a lot of “no’s” before finally getting my first “yes.” It was tough, and I almost gave up, but persistence paid off. Now, I’m partnered with some amazing schools in Houston. I’ve also hired staff to support the growing demand, and the rest is history!

Q: Since launch, what has helped attract and retain customers?

The children’s happiness is what truly draws people to us. When parents see how much their kids enjoy the program—and witness their growth during our end-of-year showcase—they’re thrilled. My dedicated instructors also play a huge role in keeping both the kids and their parents excited about staying with us.

Q: What resources have influenced you the most?

Honestly, connecting with other business professionals has been the most impactful. Joining business accelerators and workshops has given me the tools and insights I need to navigate this journey.

Q: What has been your highest revenue month?

Our highest month brought in nearly $20,000! It was such a rewarding milestone.

Q: What advice would you give to someone pursuing a similar path?

Keep going and never give up. Always remember your “why”—it will keep you motivated through the tough times.

Q: What are you most proud of?

The growth of my business in such a short time. I’m also incredibly proud of the positive impact we’ve had on children’s lives and development.
